The program combines a mix of classroom learning, hands-on activities, and immersive personal experiences, offering a holistic approach to regenerative education.

Woven through these focus areas will be a unifying theme of Deep Ecology, an animist philosophy oriented around communion with a living earth and reciprocity with between humans and nature.

Additional to this, you can expect incredibly nutritious local kai, a serene natural environment to spend your time, and a friendly community of good humans, plants and animals by your side.

A Hybrid Retreat-Workshop Experience

Participants will enjoy a fully catered retreat featuring nutrient-dense kai, much of it grown right here on the farm. Some elements you’d expect from a typical regeneration workshop, some that you might not. This experience is designed not only to educate but to nourish, connect and inspire.

We’ll be bringing together experts from our local network to share their genius in areas such as Permaculture Market Gardening, Māori Organics, Regenerative Agriculture Techniques, and more.

We’ve designed this event as roughly a 60/40 split of theory and practice. 60% theoretical learning in discussion in the yurt and in the field, and 40% practical application in the work sessions, connection exercises and ecological exploration.

You can expect to come away from this event feeling expanded in your mind, heart & ecological awareness, while feeling nourished and recharged from this beautiful land, kai and community.

About Mangaroa Farms

Mangaroa Farms is a resilient community food hub and education centre, serving as a living laboratory for transitioning from old dairy and pine forest to a thriving food basket, native forest ecosystem and community education centre. Our philosophy centers around sharing our journey and knowledge with our wider community, fostering a deeper understanding of regenerative land management and localized food systems.

The Living Systems Masterclass embodies this philosophy by offering a hands-on, immersive experience in regenerative practices. Through expert-led workshops, interactive sessions, and collaborative projects, participants gain valuable insights and practical skills to apply in their own contexts.

Instead of monoculture land use, chemical inputs and other nasties that degrade our precious whenua, we need localized production systems that work with nature to enhance our ecosystems. By understanding and mimicking Earth's natural cycles, we can create a harmonious flow where the output of one system becomes the vital input for another - a truly regenerative and sustainable approach.

What you’ll come away with:

✅ Garden (market or forest) establishment basics.
✅ Mulching
✅ Tree design
✅ Integrated regenerative agriculture theory with hands-on real world experience
✅ Refine practical skills to observe and work with natural processes and feedback loops
✅ Skills and and frameworks to help us align better with the rhythms and processes of nature.
✅ Using AI and other technological tools to enhance regenerative planning
✅ Nourished body and relaxed nervous system
✅ Deeper connection to yourself and nature
✅ Community of value-aligned people
✅ Wisdom to implement in your own practice, home, farm and garden
